ICE Taps tZERO for Tokenized Securities Transfer Agent Infrastructure
ICE partners with tZERO on transfer-agent systems, patent licensing, and collateral exploration for tokenized securities, with investment size undisclosed.
What is new
Intercontinental Exchange named tZERO to build transfer-agent and broker-dealer infrastructure for onchain settlement of tokenized securities.
ICE will invest in tZERO’s latest funding round and license the firm’s portfolio of 103 blockchain patents.
Michael Blaugrund, Vice President of Strategic Initiatives at ICE, said tZERO’s experience makes them a valuable partner for the digital transfer agent program.
The two firms will also explore tokenized assets as collateral at ICE clearing houses.
Intercontinental Exchange, parent of the New York Stock Exchange, selected tZERO as design partner for its planned tokenized securities platform.
The role places tZERO in a central position for issuing, transferring, and recording tokenized shares under regulated transfer-agent rules.
ICE previously chose Securitize in March for the same digital transfer-agent function; tZERO and Securitize remain in a separate patent dispute.
Neither the size of ICE’s investment nor the closing date of tZERO’s funding round was disclosed.
No launch timeline for the platform was stated.
