BNB Chain Pasteur Hard Fork Moves Block Execution to Builders

BNB Chain activated the Pasteur hard fork on 25 August 2026. The upgrade introduces BEP-675, which moves full transaction execution earlier to block builders.

Validators now check consensus rules and sign the block before completing full verification afterward. This change shortens validator re-work time on the critical path from 125 ms to 15 ms.

Measured changes

The usable builder window inside each 450 ms block rises from 30 percent to 45 percent. Block time and the 100 million gas limit remain unchanged.

Controlled QANet tests recorded throughput rising from 1,237 to 2,324 transactions per second, an 88 percent increase, with average gas used per block rising from 46.35 million to 84.15 million.

Remaining unknowns

Adoption of the SendBidBlock path remains optional for builders. Throughput gains observed in QANet testing have not been confirmed on mainnet.
