21 Banks Pledge 2027 USD Stablecoin Launch to Retain Rails
Bank of America, Citi, Goldman Sachs and Wells Fargo join 21 institutions committing to a 2026 company and 2027 stablecoin under GENIUS Act and MiCA.

Twenty-one banks, including Bank of America, Citi, Goldman Sachs and Wells Fargo, committed on September 1 to form a company in the second half of 2026 and launch a U.S. dollar stablecoin in the first half of 2027.
The group expanded from a ten-bank exploration that began in October 2025. It targets wholesale, cross-border, settlement and retail use cases while complying with the GENIUS Act and MiCA.
Scale and distribution remain open
No issuance size, distribution partners or liquidity targets have been disclosed. Earlier bank-issued stablecoins, such as Societe Generale's token, have remained small in circulation.
