Thirty-nine U.S. state banking associations have formed the BankChain Alliance to develop a shared blockchain platform for tokenized deposits, stablecoins, smart payments and automated settlement.

The coalition aims for a 2027 launch while preserving existing banking standards, security controls and customer protections. The 39 associations represent thousands of institutions serving millions of consumers and businesses.

The alliance is selecting a technology partner and has not disclosed a testing schedule, consensus mechanism, activation date or detailed governance structure. The 2027 timeline depends on technology selection, bank participation, regulatory approvals and finalized governance.
