MultiversX Supernova Upgrade Sept 10 Block Time Cut

MultiversX activates Supernova on Sept. 10 at round 32157661, cutting block times to 600 ms and pausing new transactions for 24 minutes during the node migration.

MultiversX Sets Supernova Upgrade for Sept. 10 to Shorten Block Times Tenfold

MultiversX will activate its Supernova upgrade on Sept. 10 during epoch 2233 at round 32157661. The change reduces block times from 6 seconds to 600 milliseconds and restructures consensus so validators can vote while execution runs in parallel.

Migration window and transaction pause

Intra-shard finality is targeted below 250 milliseconds and cross-shard settlement is expected to fall from roughly 18 seconds to 2.4 seconds. Epoch length and backward compatibility for addresses, keys, and balances stay unchanged.

The network will stop accepting new pool transactions for about 240 rounds, or roughly 24 minutes, while clearing in-flight transactions. More than 5,000 nodes must move to the new software; as of Sept. 1, 95.35 percent of nodes remained on version 1.11.11.0.

Open questions

Current node adoption of the release candidate and whether the promised speed and finality gains appear on mainnet after activation remain unknown.
