Core DAO Excess Validator Rewards Trigger Exchange Blocks
Core DAO confirmed excess validator rewards for a small group; Coinbase and LBank restricted transfers while the scale of issuance remains unknown.

Core DAO stated that validator rewards exceeded intended levels for a small group of validators and identified the root cause. The protocol said user assets remain safe, the incident was limited to reward issuance, and network security was unaffected.
Exchange actions
Coinbase paused CORE sends and receives at 04:41 UTC on 31 August. LBank suspended deposits at 05:00 UTC. Core DAO has not disclosed the amount of excess CORE, the affected validators, or the technical cause and has promised a postmortem.
Open questions
The exact excess reward amount and whether it accelerated scheduled issuance or created new supply remain unknown. The relationship between the reward anomaly and the specific exchange restrictions is unconfirmed by Core DAO.
