Anza, a Solana core client developer, is removing floating-point arithmetic from the protocol in stages to eliminate risks of divergent rounding results across hardware, validator clients, and compilers.
The first change, SIMD-0391, took effect on mainnet beta at epoch 1026. It replaces floating-point calculations with fixed-point arithmetic in the Stake Program and in validator warm-up and cooldown logic.
Next steps and open questions
A second proposal, SIMD-0607, is under review. It targets inflation reward and rent calculation paths inside the runtime.
The full scope and timeline for any remaining floating-point paths remain unspecified. No measured effects on validator performance or reward calculations have been reported.
