Thailand SEC Requires Data Collection on Crypto Transfers Above Thresholds Starting 2027

Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission issued a Travel Rule notification dated Aug. 25 that requires supervised crypto platforms to collect and transmit originator and beneficiary information on coin transfers.

The rule takes effect Feb. 27, 2027, after a 180-day implementation period. Transfers over 30,000 baht require the recipient’s province, city or country and, for legal entities, registration number.

Incoming transfers from self-hosted wallets above 30,000 baht require the platform to verify that the user controls the wallet. Records must be kept for at least five years. The rule does not apply to order-book trades or THB movements.

What remains unknown

Exact compliance costs, operational delays, volume of affected transfers, and number of licensed operators subject to the rule remain unspecified.
