Zakura Common Toolkit Speeds Zcash Shielded Transactions Without Upgrades

Zakura Common Open-Sources Toolkit to Cut Zcash Shielded Transaction Times

Zakura released Zakura Common on August 31 as an open-source cryptography toolkit. Zcash cofounder Sean Bowe confirmed the release on X and stated the libraries target wallet-side proof generation for shielded transactions.

The project reports shielded ZEC transaction creation reduced from over three seconds to under 200 milliseconds in some cases. Mobile proof generation is more than 14 times faster, desktop more than five times faster, Sinsemilla hashing more than 21 times faster, trial decryption more than 1.5 times faster, and zk-SNARK verification four to eight times faster. All figures are Zakura's own benchmarks.

No Zcash network upgrade or consensus change is required. Wallet developers can adopt the libraries directly. Zakura node software moves to the new stack in the upcoming 1.3.0 release, with Vizor Wallet among early adopters.
