U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent met separately with Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda and Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama during the G20 finance ministers and central bank governors meeting in Asheville, North Carolina.
Under Secretary for International Affairs Erin Brown said Bessent told the Japanese officials that clear communication of next steps on fiscal sustainability and the path of interest-rate increases is the appropriate policy direction.
